2nd October - busy day in the garden again. Our Interview on Tyne Tees appeared this evening too!

Cleaning out the hen-house.

Giving all the dropping trays a good deep cleaning

Planting some over-wintering onions in our veggie box.  Students measured how to divide the bed up into equal rows, and measured how deep they should plant the onions.  They used string to mark where they had planted.

All the posts for the pond have now been put in place, today some of them needed straightening with a mallet.

Putting some chocks in to help the posts to straighten up before they are concreted in.
Using a spirit level to level the posts

Our new bed outside of EPICC is starting to take shape - this is going to have spring bulbs and garden herbs in it so it looks nice and is within easy reach for the kitchen.

Putting the post-crete in to concrete the posts in.  We put the power into the space around the post and then sprayed water on the powder using the hose.  The should be sturdy and solid for the next part of construction next week.

Here are a few of our peppers, now that we have moved them inside they are slowly ripening.

Not much cooking from the garden today - we had a bit of an excess of milk so we made some creamy rice pudding and some cinnamon apples to go with them.  There has been a bumper crop of apples, so we had a box donated from a local resident.

Our larder is getting nicely stocked up from all the produce from the garden - still more to do.  And we have to find some recipes to use all the fantastic pumpkins we have grown in the garden!

We started to package and label some of our jars of jam.  We had some plums given to us, so we made some spiced plum jam with a bit of mixed spice and ginger.
